These are the first people the French military has shot since the battle of Verdun.

I think we can put to rest the idea proposed by some of my acquaintances that conservatives engage in worse hate speech than liberals.

In Other Words…

…they’re not REALLY Christians.

I addressed this in the first few lines of “My Jamaican Cliff Dive Into The Lagoon Of Theology” (4/2/08). If you don’t believe that Jesus is the only path to eternal life, then you are not a Christian. If you don’t believe in transsubstantiation, then you are not a Catholic. Et cetera.

It’s comforting to believe in the feel-good parts of your religion, but if you don’t buy into the parts that say you believe everyone else is going to hell because it’s intolerant, or that you’re a cannibal because it’s icky, then you are not what you profess to be.

Whom do you trust to do it?

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0608/Obama_brings_a_gun_to_a_knife_fight.html

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said in Philadelphia last night.

Question: What would your host have to ingest in order to approximate the same reaction Keith Olbermann and the rest of the radical left wolfpack would have had if it had been John McCain who had oinked out this ripoff of Sean Connery in “The Untouchables?” Can you imagine the accusations of temper, militarism, inappropriateness, and/or downright senility?

Alas, since it was orated by the golden tongue*, it will be considered nervy, confident, even dashing. And I bet McCain is just shaking in his boots. And please, oh please, let Obama pick Webb for VP. More on this lunatic later.

Separated At Birth?

Hillary got close, but no cigar.

I thank you.

Ted Kennedy outlives Tim Russert, and R Kelly goes free.

On a brighter note, Marcus Vick will join his dirtbag brother in jail.

My lord, what happened to Gennifer Flowers?

EDITOR, TIMES-DISPATCH:

Contradicting decisions by a jury and by the United States Supreme Court, Tim Kaine has allowed a multiple murderer to live, and we all know why: because of his personal religious beliefs.

Here, then, is my question: when is Kaine going to man up and exercise another of his core Catholic beliefs (and in the bargain contradict another decision by the Supreme Court), and begin interfering with the executions of other people “who are unaware of the punishment they are about to suffer and why they are to suffer it”…aborted fetuses?

When Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 election by half a percentage point, but lost the Electoral College — or, for short, “the constitutionally prescribed method for choosing presidents” — anyone who denied the sacred importance of the popular vote was either an idiot or a dangerous partisan.

But now Hillary has won the popular vote in a Democratic primary, while Obambi has won under the rules. In a spectacular turnabout, media commentators are heaping sarcasm on our plucky Hillary for imagining the “popular vote” has any relevance whatsoever.

“If you’re voting for Commander-In-Chief, then McCain wins. If the election is for Orator-In-Chief, then Obama wins.”

…and also reveals that he spent none of his money from “Doctor Zhivago” on orthodontia.

On a brighter note, he has no problem hailing a taxi.

http://www.jamesriverpark.org/

It’s part of the James River Park System, and I’ve been fishing, rockhopping, tubing, dogwalking, canoeing, or kayaking there since I was 14 years old. That’s 36 years. It’s the centerpiece of a stretch of the James that includes some of the best urban freshwater fishing in the country, 3 dams, gentle pools and class II rapids. Below the “Z dam” is where I have designated my ashes to be spread.

And it has become overrun with illegal aliens.

At the Pony Pasture proper, there is parking for over 150 cars. The next biggest nearby lot at Huguenot Flatwater offers over 35 spots. Up until 2-3 years ago, the only time you couldn’t get a spot in either place was in the middle of a nice weekend afternoon. Not anymore; from 10 a.m. until dusk, forget it. In the lots or on the side of the road (whether it’s posted “No Parking” or not) there is no room for citizens of Richmond, Virginia, and the United States Of America. And the problem, and it is a problem, is illegal aliens.

I walk through there and I hear no English at all. Yes, of course, some of them are legal. Anybody want to try to convince me that most of them are? Then you can blow me

away with your naivete.

When they start messing with my fishing, it’s time for action.
