Laura Ingraham: Of Thee I Zing
August 26, 2011
Okay. This is the third, and last, of this woman’s books that I’ve tried to read. The jury is in: harpy.
I tried, and I hate to give up on a book I’ve started. Though I disagree with her on some social issues, I’m generally aligned with her. O’Reilly trusts her with his show when he’s out. She’s easy on the eyes. But this woman is so uptight it almost defies metaphor. The next Ann Coulter (whose surprisingly enjoyable if infrequent wit Ingraham unsuccessfully tries to emulate) will be a delight to read after this.
I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by reminding myself that she converted to Catholicism. Did you hear me? Converted to Catholicism; made a conscious decision, as a rational adult, to adopt this system of beliefs over whatever alternatives she was considering. That should have clued me in. That, and the fact that the excellent Dinesh D’Souza evidently dumped her not too far from the altar.
But noooo, I wasted several hours of my life reading parts of these three turds. I can be forgiven only because I’m a library guy, and put no money in her, and by extension almost certainly the Vatican Bank’s, pocket in doing so.
Can’t I? Please?

Dear God…

“2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur”
As I was saying:
Dear God,
Can you please wait until after Drew and I are done fishing tomorrow morning for the Rapture? You see, I’m sure he’d be one of the elect, and I’m pretty sure I’m not, so if it happens while we’re in the canoe, the sudden weight redistribution, combined with my out of shape ass, will almost certainly result in a capsize. Which event will present Drew no problem, but which will result in an unpleasant morning swim for me, culminating in me having to put the canoe on the truck by myself, resulting in a rupture as well as the Rapture.
Thanks, Andy
P.S. Can you get Zuckerberg to have his folks rewrite the FB Notes code so it will accept my double spacings?
“11,013 BC—Creation. God created the world and man (Adam and Eve).” I had not realized they had pinned it down to an actual year. C’mon; I have stuff in my tackle box older than that.

“There has been an increasing tendency over the years for churches to insert themselves into the global warming thing,” (Michaels) added.
Yeah, among other things. I’d suggest that the Vatican might be better off sticking with its strengths, but enough children have been raped, so I won’t.

In response to:
Why does the
violence continue?
Your editorial, “Silence,” was a stark denunciation of brutal anti-Semitic violence in the West Bank, and a brilliant appeal to the most visceral emotions of readers. It failed, however, to tell the whole story.
Why, we must ask, does this kind of terrible thing so persistently happen? Many (apparently including the Times-Dispatch) feel that to examine the background behind such horrific violence is to condone or excuse it. When the consequences to innocent people of government policy are this grave, however, the time has come to unflinchingly examine that policy, in all its facets.
The Israeli government has too long used its citizens as ideological pawns, encouraging ever more settlement expansion and encroachment onto ever more Palestinian land (as defined by international agreement) in furtherance of its insatiable territorial designs. Citing religious texts and maps (themselves thought by many scholars to have been largely written and drawn in order to justify, retroactively, land grabs by military force), the Israeli government claims the right to ignore international law.
Caught in the middle of this are the people: both the Palestinians who are displaced by the settlement policy, and the Israeli citizens living in the illegal settlements, whose very place of residence is employed as a weapon of war by their rulers — inspiring a predictable, and tragic, response on the part of those under siege.
The inhuman slaughter of the Fogel family is worthy of our outrage. Those who are responsible have no excuse for their actions. However, there is plenty of blame to go around. So long as the Israeli government insists upon using its innocent citizens as weapons of ideological warfare, we can be sure that such things will happen again and again.
James Hinckley.

Answer: No.

1. It is tempting to assume that if one found a boat (if it indeed is even that, and there is no proof whatsoever yet) on a mountain, that it is the exact boat they were already looking for; but it’s not good science. The fact that it is on Mt. Ararat is helpful to that conclusion, if and only if you believe the whole story to begin with, but hardly “99.9%” conclusive.
2. Are these scientists who are relying on carbon dating to pin down a chunk of wood to, say, within 100 years, also willing to accept other scientific disciplines that prove the universe’s age as, say, 13.8 billion years, plus or minus a few billion? And if so, would they please biblically reconcile this to me?
3. Are the people who said that biblical literacy had been proven by the Wyatt discovery now willing to admit they were wrong then? And will they then admit that they could be wrong now? Or will “Oh, no, this time we REALLY found it” be acceptable science?
4. Any large amount of reasonably well-preserved lumber is of course likely to have “compartments.” That’s what we use use lumber for..to build stuff with compartments. This is proof of nothing.
5. The fact that no local settlement has ever been found above 11,000 feet is likewise proof of nothing. Occam’s Razor: is it more likely that the discovery is of a previously unknown small alpine settlement, or that it is Noah’s Ark?
I would love for this to be true. I don’t think it is possible to prove in any event, but it’d be a hoot. But I don’t think I can just chuck away common sense to facilitate it.
Yes, yes, I remember 2/2/09:

Let me know when they find something proving it’s a boat.
More Love From The Vicar Of Christ…

So let’s see…he was CONVICTED in 1978 of tying up and molesting two boys, and he only got 3 years probation? This AFTER numerous “concerns” about his suitability for the priesthood. He left his parish for 3 years, then asked to be depriested (my new word), but was denied? The Vatican DENIED this request? As late as 1985, the current pope was still resisting in-house pleas to get rid of him? And it took 2 more years to do so? And there’s more if you care to read and be nauseated further. To be fair to Kiesle, one of his later victims was female, so he’s an equal opportunity pedophile.
